CBO Supports Another Successful DND Road and Vehicle Safety Week at ATC-C Meaford

Canadian Base Operators (CBO) proudly supported the 2026 DND Road and Vehicle Safety Week at the Army Training Centre – Central in Meaford, continuing a strong tradition of promoting safe driving practices and fleet safety awareness across the site.

This event brings CBO employees and members of the Department of National Defence together for the ever-popular challenge.

Safe Driving Challenge Results

  • 1st Place: Kelly Nicholls
  • 2nd Place: Ryan Hardy
  • 3rd Place: Kerry Shepstone

Participants navigated a series of driving obstacles designed to test precision, awareness, and safe operating practices in controlled environments—skills that directly translate to safer operations on-site and on public roads.

Collaboration and Engagement

The success of this year’s event was made possible through strong collaboration across teams:

  • The Firehall showcased new vehicles and equipment, offering participants a closer look at emergency response capabilities.
  • PSP (Personnel Support Programs) delivered a hands-on bicycle safety course, reinforcing road-sharing awareness.
  • DND personnel played a key role, with eight members assisting in setup, teardown, and scoring of the driving obstacles.

This collaborative effort highlights the ongoing partnership between CBO and DND in advancing a culture of safety and shared responsibility.

Building on a Strong Foundation

Following the success of the 2025 Road and Vehicle Safety Week, themed “Share the Road!”, this year’s event continued to build momentum. Previous activities included interactive safety demonstrations, vehicle maintenance education, and awareness initiatives such as a mock collision scene designed to spark conversation and reinforce safe driving behaviours.

CBO remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of health and safety. All employees complete mandatory driver safety training and uphold the organization’s core principles:

  • Never Pass a Fault
  • Live and Work Safely
  • Home Safely Always
  • Nobody Gets Hurt Today or Tomorrow

Looking Ahead

Events like Road and Vehicle Safety Week are an important reminder that safety extends beyond the workplace. Through education, engagement, and collaboration, CBO continues to support safer driving habits for employees, partners, and the broader community.

Together, we are working to make Canada’s roads safer—today and every day.
